Tail Injury Database

Thank you for taking the time to visit the Australian National Tail Injury Database [ANTID]. For many years tail docking has been a hot topic of discussion in Australia.  Key players leading up to a State by State Restriction on tail docking in some States of Australia included Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals [R.S.P.C.A.], Australian Veterinary Association [A.V.A.], Animals Australia [A.A.].

There is no National documentation available which directly relates to tail injuries.  This is because to date tail docking has ensured injuries do not occur.  How ever due to the changed legislation in the all States of Australia,  it is anticipated that tail injuries will occur.  To this end the Australian National Tail Injury Database was established 10 January 2004. This is a searchable Database by name and is made available to the public.

It is the goal of this database to provide documented evidence of tail injuries sustained by dogs under various conditions within the home, work or play.  The information recorded in the ANTID will be used for future submissions to the Government and other appropriate organizations, should the need arise.

For your convenience, this page provides an easy to use form to enter the details of the injury.  If you have additional information which is not included on this form, please e-mail it to austnationaltailinjurydatabase@gmail.com .  If you have images showing tail injury your dog has sustained please e-mail to the above mentioned e-mail address.  All additional information along with all images, will be stored for future submissions as stated above.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU SUBMIT INFORMATION TO THE A.N.T.I.D.

By submitting information to the ANTID you:

  • understand that before any information is entered into the ANTID, it will be verified
  • understand that this information can be viewed by all who visit the ANTID
  • automatically give permission for this information to be used by interested parties who want to maintain traditional animal husbandry practices including tail docking
  • automatically give permission for any addition information you supply to be used by other interested parties who want to maintain traditional animal husbandry practices
  • automatically give permission for any images you supply to be used by other interested parties who want to maintain traditional animal husbandry practices including tail docking
