The 2nd Australian Weimaraner National was held over three days, Friday 16, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 November 2001. Our host club was the Weimaraner Club of South Australia Inc. who chose the immaculately groomed German Shepherd Grounds - Pedigree Park West Beach, Adelaide, South Australia as the venue for this event.
Exhibitors were permitted to set up their Camps any time after 3pm on Friday.
Security was provided around the clock so there was no need to pack up at the conclusion of one day only to have to set up the next.
There was a huge marquee which was to give comfort to Judges, Stweards, Exhibitors during judging, invited guests and officials should the weather turn super hot or freezing cold.
The Rottweiler Club provided the services of two computers for the printing of individual critiques, which were available on each day of conformation judging. Each critique was personally signed by our judge, making a lovely momentum of the occasion.
Virgina Alexander of the Reiteralm fame USA also attended and presented the National Perpetual Trophy donated by the American Weimaraner Club, to be presented to the Best In Show winner at our Australian National. There was nothing left to chance, the whole event went like clock work and if there were any hick ups, they were not evident.
This event was scheduled to coincide with the 25th year celebration of the Weimaraner Club of South Australia. Under normal circumstances a National Championship Show will be held every 5 years. (Having said that our 1st National was held 11 June 1988!) During the luncheon break on Saturday a huge cake was brought out (very yummy) bearing the National Logo, champagne was served to one and all (of legal drinking age) and the President of the National Weimaraner Council of Australia, Mrs Sue Shrigley presented two Life Memberships. The current President Mrs Jill Townley and the current Secretary Mrs Lois Richter were the recipients of these well deserved memberships.
Friday evening was the judging of all the obedience classes. The judge for the event was Mrs Betty Cowling of Victoria. Betty's love for obedience began some 30 years ago with Towerhill Delicate, a Bassett Hound who obtained the award of C.D. Some 5 years or so on, Betty acquired her first Weimaraner, Subahansi Kates Dream, who became Australian Obedience Champion. Betty's love for Weimaraners has lead to the ownership of three more; Aust Ch Silvahunter Sonata UD TD, Britfeld Cme Strut UD and Britfeld Refined Edition CDX.
An entry of 31 competed in obedience on the evening of Friday 16th with Highest Score in Trial going to Australian Champion Bromhund Crescendo CDX ADM ET JD (S: Aust Ch Bromhund Simply Red ex D: Bromhund Julieanna), owned by MJ & SA Lilley
