So what is a webring any
way? very briefly though...
A webring is a quick way
to find concentrations of sites with a common
interest or have a passion for the same subject
matter. Sites are linked together by a simple
Navigation Bar referred to as Side Server Navigation
Bar (SSNB). Webrings are a wonderful way to
participate in focused online communities. If
you have a web site and you are prepared to
add the SSNB to a page on your site, you can
join in. [This information's refers to webrings
in The New¹ WebRing System. There are a number
of other WebRing system available and we would
strongly suggest you visit James
S. Huggins Refrigerator Door to learn more]
How do you join a webring
in The New¹ WebRing System?
OK, you have web site, you
are prepare to COPY and PASTE the SSNB code
into a page on your site, what next? You can
go to WebRing Directory to browse for a ring
to join. WebRing offers 16 main directories
each with multiple sub-directories and each
of these has more sub-directories. For example
under the main directory heading SCIENCE you
can choose from 3 sub-directories; Astronomy,
Biology and Pets.
If you choose Pets, you will
have a further 18 sub-directories to choose
from, one which is Dogs. Choose Dogs and once
again you are presented with a further 12 options,
one which is Breeds. At the time of writing
this sub-directory had 525 Rings which delivered
907262 hits. Choose Breeds and you will find
a list of the various dog breeds and of course
Weimaraner is there. The Weimaraner category
has 8 rings which deliver 9337 hits, at the
time of writing. On the other hand you may wish
to create a Web Ring.
It’s not too difficult I
don’t think. If someone like me can do it I
am quite confident that anyone can. It is a
3 step process.
Step #1
You will need to choose a
=name= for your webring which is no greater
than 50 characters and you will also need a
=description= for your webring which is no greater
than 500 characters.
An example of this is =name=
WORLD WIDE WEIMARANER WEB RING
=description= I welcome any site from registered
breeders who hold the Weimaraner close and dear
to the heart, who promote Weimaraners in the
Show Ring, Obedience, Field, Pets as Therapy
or any other positive-to-society activities.
Other dog related sites that offer products
or services are welcome to join also. Puppy
Mills and Pet Shops are most certainly NOT welcome.
Step#2
Requires you to categorize
your webring. All you will need to do is follow
the process by choosing a directory, then a
sub-directory. Keep choosing a sub-directory
until you find just the right place for your
webring.
Step#3
Here you will need to add
your site. Once again just follow the steps
they really are very user-friendly.
Oh by the way, in order for
you to join or create a webring you are required
to have WebRing ID, so you will need to join
the New WebRing System.
